THE NEW NORMAL FOR APPALACHIAN VACATIONLAND
What is the new normal and what does it mean for your 2020 summer and fall vacation?
According to the Airbnb article Initiative for the Future of Travel, April 27, 2020 “The future of travel will rely on a new comfort zone, with the privacy and benefits of a home away from home, without crowds or high turnovers.”
So how does that translate for Treehouse Cabins, our sweet little vacation rental in the Appalachian Mountains in Hot Springs, NC?
2020 Summer/ Fall Vacation at Treehouse Cabins, NC
As it turns out, it actually aligns pretty well. According to industry experts, properties close to urban centers (check), with fully equipped kitchens and wifi (check, check), offering longer stays and allowing pets (check, check), will be most appealing to guests this summer and fall.
No one wants to be too far from home right now
When we started polling our guests we realized that proximity to home was just as important as the safety measures we were taking to clean and disinfect the cabins. Treehouse Cabins is only 45 minutes from Asheville, NC, making it easy for our guests to return home quickly to check on other family or business if needed. While people still need their vacation time, the implications of a worldwide pandemic, have most folks wanting to stay close to home this summer.
According to Karen Johnson, sales manager for Holiday River Expeditions, “Outdoor destinations, such as cabins, campgrounds, and small mountain resort towns within easy driveable distances of home will be preferred”.
(I think she just described us to a "T" :)
Trust with a capital “T”
Our family purchased the Treehouse Cabins in May of 2019 and immediately started upgrading the popular mountain getaway with improved amenities such as reliable wifi, new hot tubs, and on-demand hot water for quicker turnovers. We were mostly catering to couples wanting a 2-3 day romantic weekends but then COVID entered the arena and... oh my, we’ve had to rethink our business model from top to bottom.
Limited interaction between guests and staff -
We quickly recognized that moving from short stays of 2-3 days to long term stays of 5 to 7 days or even multiple weeks (see available dates under SPECIALS) was a lot less risky compared to having multiple guests moving in and out of the cabins every few days. Fewer people mean less risk for everyone including our staff and community. With our self-check-in and only 4 cabins spaced 70-80 feet apart on the 13-acre property, our cabins are super private, with little chance of interaction with others.
Luckily for us, we have a history of guests trusting us with their mountain getaways. Top to bottom, our cabins consistently receive the highest star rating for cleanliness and amenities. With COVID-19 risks being a major consideration, we have immediately upped our game with cleaning and disinfecting protocols to align with those recommended by the CDC. (read our article on Safety Measures).
